Chakrabongse Villas
An absolute splurge accommodation, these are three private apartments in an amazing garden setting with a riverside view at Wat Arun. The villas are beautifully decorated and furnished with dark wood, silk and teak floors. Amenities include air-conditioning and a small pool. Very expensive though.
Niras Bankoc Cultural Hostel
This is a great hotel as it is close to most attractions and to Khao San Road, while still in a quiet folk neighbourhood. Walking to the Grand Palace takes about 30 minutes over some larger roads, but you can easily hail taxis. There are private rooms and dorm rooms with four to six people on it. Rooms are clean and decent, and the interior is in an interesting colonial style. The vintage coffee shop offers good quality coffee and Thai tea. Free Wi-Fi is available.
